FIRST GENERATION

1. WAYMIRE1 died in 1757 in PA. Sailed to America on the Leathley with wife, two daughters, and son John R. Waymire family. Wife died at sea? Two daughters were sold into servitude to pay passage and not heard from again.

He was married. WAYMIRE had the following children:

SECOND GENERATION

2. John R. WAYMIRE was born in 1725 in Hanover, Germany.2 He served in the military in 1743 in Battle of Dettingen.3 He was described as Height at least 6' 6" and weight at least 225 lbs. in 1743 in Germany.4 This was the physical requirements to be a body-guard for the King. He was retained after his military service by the King as an officer in body-guard. He died in 1801.5 He served in the military during the Revolutionary War.6 He emigrated from Hamburg, Germany.7 Arrived on the Leathley from Hamburg, Germany. Then located in William Penn's settlement in PA.

John R. WAYMIRE and Elizabeth PEGG had the following children:

52. George Washington JULIAN8 was born on May 5, 1817. He died on July 7, 1899. He practiced law and wrote antislavery articles.  Member of Indiana state house of representatives, 1845; U.S. Representative from Indiana, 1849-51, 1861-71 (4th District 1849-51, 5th District 1861-69, 4th District 1869-71); Free Soil candidate for Vice President of the United States, 1852; in 1856 helped form the Republican Party.  Again elected to the House (1861-71), he made emancipation a war aim in the Civil War. In 1867 he helped prepare articles of impeachment against Pres. A. Johnson, and received 5 electoral votes for Vice-President, 1872. He later wrote books and articles on reform causes, incl. women's suffrage. Settled in Irvington, a suburb of Indianapolis.  Buried at Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis, Ind.  See also: congressional biography.
